DJ Paul’s mostly-reunited 2013 rendition of the Three 6 Mafia includes Gangsta Boo, Crunky Black, Lord Infamous, and Koopsta Knicca. While Juicy J and La’Chat aren’t down (yet), the tribute crew known as Da Mafia 6ix still upholds some of the tactics that made Memphis’ breakthrough group so cult-beloved back in the mid-1990s. Obvious samples, twisted inside out until they’re sinister is one of Paul’s trademarks. Here, the longtime producer for UGK, Project Pat, and Yelawolf tackles the Fame soundtrack and makes some Tear Da Disco Up Thugs music. For fans of the pre-major label Hypnotize Minds, this is cool… especially with second generation mover and shaker Lil Wyte on there.
