Maino Wears A Crown & Raps About The State Of New York Hip-Hop Alongside Jadakiss (Video)

Since the mid-2000s, Maino has been fearlessly outspoken. The Brooklyn, New York rapper came into focus as a protege of Lil’ Kim, and with some innovative Just Blaze production, rocked radio throughout 2009. Whenever Maino and his Hustle Hard movement disagrees with something though, he springs into action—on and off the mic.

Maino was one of the first responders to Trinidad Jame$’ late 2013 claims about the state of New York Hip-Hop. Offended, Maino (paraphrasing) stated that the Atlanta rapper signed to Def Jam Records ought to re-route any planned travel to the five boroughs. Since then, the two spoke ear-to-ear. However, Maino still has things to say on the subject of NYC Rap today. In “What Happened,” Maino and The Lox’s Jadakiss speak on the subject. Making a clear point, Maino rocks a crown in the video, and interpolates Jay Z’s “Ain’t No Love” to break down what exactly happened, and considers who or what is to blame. There’s a lot of symbolism in this vid, directed by Mazi O. (a veteran NY rapper in his own right).

This will get you thinking as 2014 ramps up. What do you think about the lecture at hand?
