From Mos Def to Ghostface Killah to R.A. The Rugged Man, producer Ayatollah has been cooking up beats for well over 15 years. A descendant of the Rawkus Records era, ‘Tollah found a home in Nature Sounds Records (J Dilla, Blu, Havoc), where he released several instrumental LPs.

This week, Ayatollah kind of made a hybrid from his productions for MCs and his free-standing instrumentals. Be Real Black For Me, taken from the famous Donny Hathaway & Roberta Flack tune (which Scarface and M.O.P. notably sampled back when), features Wu-Tang Clan’s Inspectah Deck, Anthony Hamilton, and New Jersey sensation/Rawkus 50 alum, Silent Knight.
