Ten years ago, 50 Cent and G-Unit were a fixture of events like the MTV Video Music Awards and the Grammy Awards, Eminem’s “Free Yayo” shirts and all. These days, nobody from the G-Unit (or Shady, or Aftermath) camp seemed to be at the Los Angeles Forum for the 2014 VMAs, but with good reason…

Fif, Tony Yayo, Lloyd Banks, Young Buck, and Kidd Kidd were hard at work tonight. G-Unit’s quintet edition was loading the cannon on The Beauty Of Independence. The now-independent again group just-released six new songs, which are currently only available digitally. This is G-Unit’s first retail effort since 2008’s T.O.S.

This is the G-Unit that many Heads remember fondly, and the kind of tactic the once Queens-based crew helped make famous.
