Jay Z & Beyonce’s Latest On The Run Trailer Takes A Page From McQueen & MacGraw (Video)
Following their fast-paced heist film-inspired trailer in May, Beyonce & Jay Z’s “On The Run” HBO special gets a second trailer, pulling from other types of film.
Deliberately off-beat, the first 45 seconds seem to draw from the early days of Hollywood, somewhere alluding to original pin-up starlets like Mae West and Gloria Swanson, as Jay admires Bey’ on stage.
After a cut, it’s suddenly a Sam Peckinpah-style Western. Mr. & Mrs. Carter are outlaws, rolling fast in a 1965 Pontiac GTO convertible through the tumbleweeds of the American West. Pulling into a diner, some drama unfolds…with no words, only music.
This appears partially inspired by the original 1972 Getaway (directed by the late, acclaimed Peckinpah), starring Steve McQueen and Ali MacGraw, also a real-life couple that worked and starred together.
That trailer is worth watching too:
