Jhene Aiko’s relationship-centric music continues to permeate the mainstream in 2014. Although Aiko’s subjects are tangible to many, her vocal abilities and mixes usually come in with some distance, making some unique aesthetics. “The Pressure,” which premiered earlier this summer, is a testament to this.

The video, which was directed by Childish Gambino and Calmatic, finds Jhene alternately surrounded by moons in orbit in one setting, and facing daily pressures–romantic, familial, professional–in other settings. How do you perceive this metaphor?

As an aside, thoughts on Miss Aiko’s new look?

#BonusBeat: Today (September 2), iTunes Radio premiered a free, full stream of Jhene Aiko’s full-length Def Jam Records debut album, Souled Out, executive produced by No I.D.
