In addition to his integral role with Capone-N-Noreaga, Tragedy Khadafi (p/k/a The Intelligent Hoodlum) was an influential MC to the likes of Nas, Cormega, Mobb Deep, and Nature dating back to Juice Crew days. Signed to a major label, mentored by Marley Marl, blending smooth rhymes with highly-informed lyrics, Trag’ is an under-played master within his class.

“Free Thinkers 2,” produced by Brown Bag AllStars’ Audible Doctor (Ghostface Killah, Joell Ortiz, Bumpy Knuckles), is the best of all things Tragedy. The song has dense, thoughtful lyrics, delivered in a way, where you can clearly trace Nas’ Illmatic style back to the onetime Gee Street Records artist, who famously replied to Tha Dogg Pound and Snoop’s “New York, New York” with some words of his own:
