Oddisee’s Onetime Partner Kenn Starr Is Back, This Time With Black Milk (Audio)
Kenn Starr’s album is called Square One, a testament to how the DMV veteran from the Low Budget Crew (Oddisee, Peter Rosenberg, Kev Brown, Sean Born) sees himself. Years ago, a Halftooth Records artist (see 2006’s Starr Status), Kenn (and Oddy) made noise together, before the MC took a lengthy hiatus from the spotlight.
Now inked to Mello Music Group, Starr is out to pick up where he left off, whether that’s the ground floor or not. The January 27 LP features involvement from Kev, Wordsworth, Supastition, and more. It’s Black Milk and the Detroit, Michigan MC/producer’s frequent collaborator Melanie Rutherford that join Kenn on “The Definition.” The soulful single is an ode to Starr’s idea (and ideals) of the perfect mate:
