Pimp C Remembered On His 41st Birthday By Bun B, Too Short, Paul Wall & More (Video)

Today (December 29), Chad “Pimp C” Butler would have turned 41 years old. Sadly, the UGK icon passed away seven years ago this month from a heart attack. However, even without him in the flesh, the Port Arthur, Texas MC/producer’s impact upon music continues to permeate, from Drake and Big K.R.I.T., to Beyonce and A$AP Rocky.

Sweet James Jones is the subject of a cool, honorary birthday vignette by Montreality. Included, Jive label-mate and close friend Too Short speaks about the pair’s bond, as Bun B weighs in on his Underground Kingz brother. Swishahouse alums Paul Wall and Slim Thug also weigh in, as 2000s-era pupils of the Pimp. Even DJ Whoo Kid weighs in on the impact and unpublicized friendship he had with the Rap-A-Lot Records act.

Bun B breaks down some of Chad’s early hustlin’ enterprises, while Too Short laughs lookin’ back at Pimp C taking umbrage with The Youngbloodz. Paul Wall recalls being prison pen-pals with the Slab Music pioneer. In between, there’s some quality footage of Pimp from back in the day.

#Bonus Beat: Today is as good a day as any to remember one of Pimp C’s finest productions, in the form of 1994’s “Havin’ Thangs” for New Orleans Geto Boy, Big Mike:
