Planet Asia Pops Off Over Beats That Sound Straight Outta The Rhyme Pays Era (FreEP)

When Planet Asia eloquently stated “My mind shine harder than your chain” back in 2000, on Dilated Peoples’ “Ear Drums Pop,” it was clear that the Fresno, California MC was special. Trading an Interscope Records deal for full creative control, this Cali Agent has achieved strong independent success.

Late in 2014, Asia ran in from the left with the Zapco EXP EP. This five-song EP is a B-Boy (and B-Girl) buffet of hard, ’80s-minded rhymes with beats that match. Although the producer is unknown, this is Roland 808 drum-inspired boom-bap that sounds especially West Coast, the kind of jams heard on Ice-T’s 1987 breakthrough Rhyme Pays.

P.A. makes the joint available for free download too, but he deservingly will accept $5 on Bandcamp too.
