Eazy-E & Bone Thugs-N-Harmony 1994 Interview Surfaces…Glimpse The O.G.’s (Video)

In many ways, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony was Eazy-E’s final act of greatness. The Compton Gangsta Rap mogul looked to Ohio to find a quintet that sounded like nothing else in the space. Krazyie, Layzie, Wish, Bizzy, and Flesh-N-Bone combined G-Funk with Gospel with Midwest choppin’ to provide a style that stood tall, and brought Ruthless Records plaques, awards, and massive success well beyond the life of the N.W.A. founder.

In 1994, especially before June’s Creepin’ On Ah Come Up, not many in the media had the foresight to capture a pre-platinum B.T.N.H. in the lab. Eazy E, three years removed from N.W.A., was not as popular as he once was…with Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, and The D.O.C. all finding success beyond the Ruthless label, and looking back with some anger and a laugh. Eric Wright pushed on though, developing acts like Kokane, Atbahn Klan (Black Eyed Peas), Blood Of Abraham, and the DJ Quik-backed Penthouse Players Clique. Without much doubt, Bone Thugs proved to be the center-piece, especially for Ruthless. One interviewer from the local cable access show “New Generations” had the know-how and possessed the ability to go inside the studios with Bone and E. She’s able to present the footage 21 years later.

At Audio Achievements Recording Studios in Torrance, California (where N.W.A. also made their hits), a buzzed Eazy and Bone Thugs talk about the songs, crack jokes, and vibe out to some music—including “Real Muthaphuckkin G’s,” from Eazy’s latest release, 1993’s It’s On (Dr. Dre) 187um Killa. Also, Eazy’s mint green 1963 Chevrolet Impala coupe lowrider is prominently featured, which was also used in many of his video appearances towards the end of his life. For car Heads, this lo-lo is still around, in pristine period condition—thanks to Felix Car Club. Sadly, Eazy E would pass away approximately one year from this video.

#BonusBeat: In the background, Heads can hear the Wu-Tang mix to “Anything” by SWV, a newly-released record by Eazy’s rival label, from the Above The Rim soundtrack.
