Lil Wayne is out for 2015. Only brandishing the Young Money flag for the year ahead, Mr. Carter will crack open the calendar with his upcoming mixtape, Sorry 4 The Wait 2. After a slow last year, Weezy F. goes to his YM site and takes Future’s hit “Sh!t,” and reworks it in a way that’s true to him, and clearly a nod to that Freebandz style.

The song employs Auto-Tune, that slow singing, and the Future-istic flow at the chorus. However, in between, Wayne hits with the kind of uncontainable delivery of raw bars upon bars that feel like his definitive mixtape moments of the mid-2000s. “Shi!t (Remix),” as he calls it, is an audio “postcard from the edge,” and the first sticking point in a year that the 20-year Rap veteran aims to capture.
