In honor of J Dilla’s annual birthday weekends celebration(s), Ras Kass is one artist who joined in on the tributes. Running in some of the same circles back in the late ’90s and 2000s, emerging MC Davincci laced “Dilla,” a sharp-tongued salute to James Yancey with one of his bouncing beats. Razzy joined in, but brought along his twin sons, Taj and Ras, who sound nothing like the age-old “kiddy-rapper” stereotype. Instead, these two young men have bars in the bloodline, as they join the tribute with flare and fury. Veteran MC and visual artist SKAM2? (Eminem, Jigmastas, Ill Bill) also joins in, as he readies his own upcoming project.

“Dilla” is something that the late Slum Village founder most likely would have greatly appreciated.
