Questlove is from an era when some great producers were equally phenomenal rappers. Large Professor, Diamond D, Lord Finesse, DJ Quik, and Andre 3000 are just some of the double-threat MCs. While Questlove is a drummer, producer, DJ, filmmaker, and all around funny guy, he never really got into rapping.

Still for the recent annual Roots Jam Session, The ?uestion showed that he can still kick a verse, off of memory no less (with some bonus freestyle to boot). The funky drummer, while hittin’ the (drum) skins, covered for the absent Dice Raw on “The Lesson, Part 1,” from 1995’s Do You Want More?!!??!!. Rapping and drumming at the same time (with lots of support from Black Thought), Questlove shows just how deep it goes for him.

Should Ahmir join Black Milk, Nottz Raw, Blu, J.Cole, and Big K.R.I.T. as part of today’s rapping producers?
