CyHi The Prynce Makes A 2-Song Tape That Rocks ‘Til The Tape Pops (Audio)

Even with only mixtapes available, CyHi The Prynce continues to deliver great album-quality music. The G.O.O.D. Music sensation is also among the 2010s’ best freestyle performers, making many consider him a total package talent.

Teaming with SMH Records (which includes Wake Up Show co-founder King Tech), CyHi unveiled a cool concept. The DAT Tape Singles pays homage to the days when MCs had to book (and thus pay for) studio time, adding to the pressure of making strong product. Recorded on actual DAT, CyHi dropped a two-sided single (inspired by the two sides of a cassette tape):

Side A: “I’ve Been Waiting” Cyhi The Prynce & Shalé
Side B: “Flower In The Addict” Cyhi The Prynce featuring Frankie Porkchops, Caskey, Mike Smith and Shalé

While the latter features Cash Money Records’ Caskey, the former is a clever interpolation of Pearl Jam’s “Black.” Like the other recent SMH release (Kxng Crooked’s “I Didn’t Mean To Treat You Bad”), a 1990s Alternative Rock classic is the basis. Does this approach work?
