Action Bronson & Joey Bada$$ Celebrate Success While Staying True (Audio)

It was just 30 months ago that Action Bronson and Joey Bada$$ appeared on A$AP Rocky’s “1 Train,” a unified front of a new, nostalgic New York City Rap crop. In 2015, a lot’s changed, but a lot hasn’t.

All three MCs have 2015 albums, all garnering a lot of acclaim—building on the portfolios without shaking loose the fan bases that got them here. A big conduit in the careers of Joey and Bam Bam is Statik Selektah, the DJ/producer who held them down, showed them the in’s and out’s of the game, all while supplying them with powerful sounds that have only gotten stronger with age and experience.

From the upcoming Lucky 7 album (July 7) on the ShowOff/Duck Down label, Statik unleashes “Beautiful Life.” Here, the Brooklyn-Queens connect own their success, label backing, and world tours, while showing that they’re the same guys who eat lamb and curry chicken, and still hop the 1 train. Statik supplies a Disco-tinged beat that speaks to the throwback qualities in each, while finding some new audio terrain for the MCs to travel.

Think the intro is a modernized reference to Marley Marl’s opening on “The Symphony”?
