From The Roots To ‘Roots’: Questlove To Handle Music For Alex Haley Remake

Already one of the busiest entertainers in show-business, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson has taken on at least two projects this week. The band-leader for The Roots and their role on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Questlove has associated himself with another Roots. According to Variety, Quest’ will serve as Executive Musical Producer for the latest adaptation of Alex Haley’s Roots.

A+E Network is reportedly in pre-production to remake the 1976 Alex Haley novel and subsequent 1977 television mini-series slavery portrait based on the life of Kunta Kinte. Laurence Fishburne is among the four-night series’ stars. The series, which features involvement from some of the same parties involved 38 years ago, will include four separate directors. Coach Carter‘s Thomas Carter and Patriot Games‘ Phillip Noyce are the two confirmed.

Previously, Questlove worked in television on comedic programs, “Chappelle’s Show” and “Inside Amy Shumer.”

Additionally, OkayPlayer is reporting that the entire Roots brand is slated to provide a soundtrack to Broadway play, “Hamilton.” The Lin Manual Miranda-directed play opens August 6 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.
