Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monch & Bun B To Perform Free Concert One Year After Michael Brown’s Murder

August 9, 2014 was Michael Brown’s last day alive. The 18 year-old Ferguson, Missouri man had graduated high school eight days earlier, before an altercation with Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson that would ultimately leave Brown murdered in the street.

One year later, August 9, 2015, Talib Kweli will perform a free concert in nearby Saint Louis. At Fubar, the Reflection Eternal/Black Star MC will headline a show that also includes Pharaohe Monch, Bun B, Immortal Technique, Rapsody, 9th Wonder, dead prez’ M1, Tef Poe, Jasiri X, Kendra Ross, and DJ Needlz, among others. The collective is asking for canned goods donations to the Hands Up United Food Bank, along with opportunities to give to the family of Mike Brown.

In 2000, Kweli, Monch, and M1 were among those who worked on Hip-Hop For Respect. The Rawkus Records EP was made against police brutality, in response to the wrongful 1999 murder of Amadou Diallo by NYPD officers Sean Carroll, Richard Murphy, Edward McMellon and Kenneth Boss. All four officers were charged, and later acquitted.

Darren Wilson was never charged of any crime related to the death of Michael Brown.
