Talib Kweli Was Critical to Soundbombing. He & 9th Wonder Are Making Their Own Compilation.
In establishing Rawkus Records mission, vision, and range, Talib Kweli was highly integral to celebrated compilation series like Soundbombing and Lyricist Lounge. A decade after breaking from Rawkus, Talib teamed with former label-mate Pharoahe Monch as well as 9th Wonder to form Indie 500.
The Hip-Hop triumvirate aims to really unleash their major-challenging operation later this year. After last week’s “Pay Ya Dues” single by Kweli, Bad Lucc, and Problem, Talib provided a lot of additional information surrounding the first lap of Indie 500.
At the 2:00 mark of today’s (September 28) HipHopDX “Daily Daily” video, some exclusive audio is played of the onetime Black Star co-founder revealing details. “I got an album, Indie 500, with 9th Wonder, coming out. That album’s got myself, Brother Ali, [DJ] Hi-Tek, Khrysis, Bad Lucc, Problem, Rapsody, Planet Asia, Nico [Is], Pharoahe Monch, Slug from Atmosphere.” The veteran added, “I’m really happy about the place I’m in creatively.”
Monch and Kweli worked together on Lyricist Lounge 1 and 2, and Soundbombing 2 and 3.
In 2015, Talib has released two albums, Radio Silence and Fuck The Money. The latter was offered for free. Additionally, the Reflection Eternal member formally offered fans, Train of Thought: Lost Lyrics, Rare Releases & Beautiful B-Sides Vol. 1.
