Cee Lo Green Follows A Tribe Called Quest’s Footprints & Flips A Classic (Audio)
As the release date for A Tribe Called Quest’s 25th Anniversary re-issue of their People’s Instinctive Travels And The Paths of Rhythm album inches closer, more details are being released about what is promising to be one of the most anticipated projects of the season. Dropping November 13, the album will serve as both a nod to the original while also inviting the contributions from some of today’s biggest names in Hip-Hop. Thus far, Pharrell Williams, J. Cole, and Cee Lo Green have been confirmed artists on the LP, with the three adding their own unique spins to classics like “Bonita Applebum,” “Can I Kick It?,” and “Footprints,” respectively. The re-issue will be remastered by the legendary studio engineer Bob Power, who is famously shouted on by Q-Tip on several Tribe records. Using the original recording tapes, the new Instinctive Travels will serve as the first in several Tribe re-issues that are slated to drop over the next several years.
On the second official remix from the forthcoming LP, Cee Lo Green takes on “Footprints,” an album cut comprised entirely of Q-Tip verses. The remix maintains the original content, but smooths out the drums, adds some soul and includes an additional verse from Green. The remix follows Pharrell’s rendition of “Bonita,” which means Heads can expect J. Cole’s version of “Can I Kick It?” to be the next released from the arsenal. Check out “Footprints” below and head to iTunes to pre-order the re-issued album, a purchase which allows for the download of the first two remixes.
