Black Thought, Jay Electronica, & Bun B Added To 2016 J Dilla Weekend Lineup

There have been some major changes surrounding the 2016 J Dilla Weekend. The second annual event in Miami, Florida will take place February 5-7. The event, hosted by J Dilla’s mother, Maureen “Ma Dukes” Yancey, features concert performances, art exhibits, panels, record swap meets, and more. The main venue for the festival is SoHo Studios.

Pre-sale ticket packages are available for the authorized Dilla event.

Organizers have announced that Black Thought (of The Roots) has been added to the list of headliners. The South Philadelphia, Pennsylvania veteran MC will perform alongside DJ J. Period. Together, the tandem will perform a special “Dilla Edition” of their famed “Live Mixtape” set. This means that the platinum, Grammy Award-winning lyricist will rap over various Dilla beats.

Also added to the lineup is Jay Electronica. The New Orleans, Louisiana veteran MC/producer is making a rare appearance, paying tribute to one of his double-threat influences. Previously, Jay Elect’ has recorded over Dilla tracks, including the 2009 track “Suckas.”

UGK co-founder Bun B is also an addition to the Dilla Weekend lineup. On the posthumously released Jay Stay Paid album’s vinyl edition, Bun rapped over Dilla alongside Termanology on the song “Make It Fast.” The Port Arthur, Texas veteran MC and #1 charting artist is a longtime fan of the Slum Village, JayLib, and 1st Down co-founder.

Rounding out the updated lineup is producer Kev Brown (DJ Jazzy Jeff, Oddisee, Biz Markie) and multi-year DMC World Champion turntablist DJ Craze.
