Wu-Tang Clan and Gang Starr Foundation appeared to run in different circles in the late 1990s. While RZA and DJ Premier reportedly go back to the Prince Rakeem days, Gang Starr only worked with Inspectah Deck by Y2K (care of “Above The Clouds”). That does not mean, however, that two of Hip-Hop’s most respected units weren’t rolling together. DJ Premier and RZA would both help mentor Shyheim The Rugged Child, including a 1994 Preemo-produced appearance alongside Big Daddy Kane, Jay Z, Sauce Money, Big Scoob, and Ol’ Dirty Bastard. Still, for lovers of the gritty styles within the Clan and the Foundation, there was always a hunger for more.

From that era exists a rare freestyle featuring Ghostface Killah, Jeru The Damaja, and Wu affiliate Cappadonna. Brooklyn-meets-Staten Island, New York as these three MCs roll up their sleeves for some round-robin, cypher-style raps over-top beats by made famous by Ghost’ and ‘Ru.

While Capp’ was an Ironman “co-host,” Jeru would never appear on a Wu album, or one from Cappadonna.
