Your Old Droog Walks Down 42nd Street With Some Fresh Nu Shooz (Audio)
Coney Island, Brooklyn’s Your Old Droog represents a different kind of New York City experience. In his twenties, Y.O.D. is a bit young to remember the 42nd Street of the Mayor Koch-era NYC, filled with grind-house movie theaters, peep shows, greasy food, and an assortment of sidewalk hustles. However, the remnants of that experience creep into “The Deuce.”
Droog raps about bumping into tourists, getting his buzz on, and eating Papaya hot dogs in the twilight, as his came up. Longtime associate Marco Polo loops up some Nu Shooz to make the moment all the more thematic to the ’80s NYC experience. Y.O.D. gets his co-production on too.
No matter the time or era, Times Square is an epicenter for people watching and finding great characters like this MC outta B.K.
