Elzhi Only Needs Two 16s to Deliver Unmatched Storytelling (Audio)

March 25 will signal the arrival of Elzhi’s Lead Poison, a scenario for which “highly anticipated” is an understatement. His first full-length release since 2011’s Elmatic, the upcoming LP is equal servings of vulnerability and dominance, as the Detroit MC’s gimmick-free lyrical abilities take on everything from mental illness to good, old-fashioned boasts of prowess. The latter side of the spectrum is home to “Two 16’s,” a hard-hitting track that represents the “you get what you asked for” concept in musical form.

Featuring production from fellow Motor City talent Karriem Riggins – whose work with Common, Erykah Badu, the Roots, and Kanye West make him a staple for any Head’s collection – Elzhi’s latest is a reminder of what’s been missing the last five years. Built atop two 16-bar long verses, it features the captivating storytelling he does so well, examining a man and a woman who both struggle with that obstacle course we call life.

“Two 16’s” follows the release of the video for “February” and Lead Poison‘s lead single, “coSIGN.”
