Michel’le’s Relationships With Dr. Dre & Suge Knight The Subject Of Lifetime Biopic

In 2015 film Straight Outta Compton, the lives and careers of N.W.A. members were profiled to a box office record-breaking response. Eazy-E, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, MC Ren, and DJ Yella’s recording, touring, and the establishment of Ruthless Records made for much of the film’s story.

Michel’le was present for much of the period Straight Outta Compton chronicled. Her 1989 self-titled album would be Ruthless’ first R&B release, and a platinum-certified effort produced by Dr. Dre & DJ Yella. Additionally, the Los Angeles, California vocalist was romantically involved with Dre, at one point becoming engaged to the star producer. When Dre would leave Ruthless to help establish Death Row Records, Michel’le would join him at the new label co-owned by Suge Knight. By the end of the 1990s, as Dre left Death Row, Michel’le would eventually marry Knight, and become the acting CEO of the record label during his high-profile incarceration.

Although Michel’le was not heavily portrayed in Straight Outta Compton, the singer has sold her story to the Lifetime network (via Sony Pictures). According to a Deadline report, The Michel’le Story is confirmed to follow recent network-produced biopics on Whitney Houston and Aaliyah.

Rhyon Nicole Brown of Lincoln Heights fame will play the title lead. Curtis Hamilton will play Dr. Dre, while R. Marcus Taylor, who played Suge in Straight Outta Compton, will reprise his role.

Now a reality TV personality via R&B Divas: Los Angeles, Michel’le has spoken publicly about physical abuse she encountered while linked to Dr. Dre. Further, the singer who appeared on albums by Tupac and Tha Dogg Pound, defended ex-husband Suge Knight as someone who protected her from Dre during such conflicts. In the same March, 2015 Breakfast Club interview, the “Something In My Heart” singer also called her marriage to Knight “fake.” The couple did have a daughter together, upon Knight’s 2002 release from Mule Creek State Prison in Oregon.
