The First Big Rap Reunion Of 2016…The Cool Kids Are Back Together.

Five years ago yesterday (July 12, 2011), The Cool Kids released When Fish Ride Bicycles. After a separation spanning nearly the half-decade since, the Chicago, Illinois duo announced it has reunited. Today (July 13), producer/MC Chuck Inglish and rhyme partner Sir Michael Rocks confirmed their reunion on social media.

Since the Top 100 album (released on Mountain Dew’s Green Label), Chuck released three solo albums, as Mikey released 2014’s Banco. In that time, Rocks also briefly signed with Curren$y’s Jet Life imprint. Both MCs worked with a host of contemporaries, including Mac Miller, Freddie Gibbs, and Rapsody.

Founded in the mid-2000s, The Cool Kids would initially sign with A-Trak’s Fool’s Gold Records (Danny Brown, Run The Jewels, Kid Cudi) at the start of the label. Releasing single “88” b/w “I Rock,” the retro-themed Windy City outfit would later EP, The Bake Sale on XL Records (Adele, M*I*A, Tyler, The Creator) in 2008.

In early 2014, The Cool Kids released two songs at random. However, in April of ’15, Mikey told an interviewer that the ’00s group was “never coming back.”

On Twitter, both halves of the group expressed their excitement. Chuck alluded to madness surrounding the national events in July inspiring him to call his partner.
