DMX Reportedly Checks Into Rehab After Canceling Multiple Concerts

UPDATE: Days after a “medical emergency” was cited as the reason DMX canceled at least three concert appearances, the rapper has reportedly checked into a Southern California rehabilitation facility for substance abuse. TMZ has learned from sources close to the Yonkers, New York MC that after reaching California, the artist voluntarily checked himself in.

Less than a week ago, DMX was among the headliners at a Ruff Ryders reunion show in Brooklyn, New York. After missing a show in Santa Ana, California last night (April 25), DMX’s team has stated that he is now experiencing a medical emergency.

According to TMZ, medical reasons are behind Tuesday’s no-show as well as prompt cancellations for tonight’s Los Angeles concert, as well as a schedule set in San Diego tomorrow.

The onetime Def Jam Records flagship artist has had a complicated career off the stage. From incarceration to bankruptcy, drug and alcohol addiction to child support charges, the man born Earl Simmons has been in the news much more for transgressions than music for the last decade. In February of last year, DMX was discovered lifeless in a Yonkers, New York hotel parking lot. First responders revived the father of 15, who later claimed it was an asthma attack.

Dating back to 1998, DMX has been incarcerated for a litany of offenses stemming from drug possession to driving penalties to animal cruelty.

X’s Friday Barclays Center performance garnered some criticism, including the likes of HOT 97’s Peter Rosenberg who questioned Swizz Beatz about it. The Ruff Ryders producer who is said to be working closely with DMX on an upcoming album admitted that he was not involved in the onetime superstar’s set.
