After a quiet period following his latest album, You Only Live 2wice, which dropped back in March, Freddie Gibbs is back with a new single. Linking up with French producer FEYNMAN, “THE WAVE” fits sonically with Gibbs’ last album, with its hard-hitting, but still introspective atmosphere. Over a spacey, bass-heavy beat, Gibbs approaches with a grizzly flow. In his verse, he owns his lane in Rap, proclaiming his dominance in the game, once again.

In April of this year, Gangsta Gibbs discussed prospects of a Piñata sequel alongside producer Madlib. “I got a lot of stuff recorded, man, so I don’t even know if there’s a need to get back in the studio. Y’all pretty much know that I’m about to drop the bomb with this Madlib sh*t,” he told Complex. “That’s rumored, you know what I mean, allegedly I’m about to drop that—when Otis is ready then I’m gonna drop that. Other than that I’m just chillin’ right now, I’m enjoying life; I’m enjoying my freedom. I’m not taking a day of that for granted no more.”

Some of Gibbs’ newest music is on the official Ambrosia For Heads playlist.
