This afternoon (June 18), rapper XXXTentacion was fatally shot near Miami, Florida. He was reportedly in his vehicle leaving a motorcycle dealer when two men allegedly approached the car, shot him, and then fled the scene. The 20-year-old artist born Jahseh Onfroy has passed away from the gunshot wounds, according to the Broward County Sheriffs Department, as reported by TMZ. He was rushed to an area hospital before being pronounced dead.

TMZ also reports that a local dispatch is seeking two Black males wearing hoodies, with the shooter having worn a red mask. They were in a Dodge Journey with tinted windows and custom wheels, per the report. The shooting is also believed to be a robbery, as witnesses report that a designer Louis Vuitton bag was stolen from XXXTentacion’s vehicle.

Earlier this year, XXX’ took his Bad Vibes Forever-released sophomore album ? to #1 on the Billboard charts. The Plantation, Florida native’s single “Sad!” reached #7, ahead of achieving double-platinum status. The artist has feuded with several Rap peers, ranging from Drake to Migos member Offset due to social media accusations of biting. Earlier this year, his music was briefly banned from Spotify-curated playlists on the digital streaming platform. That decision was later overturned. The controversial artist was currently awaiting trial for domestic abuse charges against his pregnant girlfriend. He was recently released from house arrest to tour.

XXXTentacion has worked with Three 6 Mafia’s Juicy J, Kodak Black, and Joey Bada$$, among others. He was previously named an XXL “Freshman” artist.
