J-Live is a true Hip-Hop multi-threat. He raps, he DJs, he produces, he runs a label, and he does so much more. The Brooklyn, New Yorker (who now calls Georgia home) sometimes demonstrates several talents at once. For those who have not seen a J show, they get a taste of some of those simultaneous skills in a new song, “J-Live Vs. The Marvelettes.”

The Marvelettes were famed for being the first major successful group under Motown Records preceding the Miracles. They may be best known for hit single, “Please Mr. Postman.” Nearly a decade later, the Inkster, Michigan quartet followed a line of charting records with “You’re The One For Me, Bobby.” The record was apparently a serenade from Wanda Young to her husband, Bobby Rogers.

J-Live finesses lyrics over while scratching over this record at once. He does not exclude the euphonious vocals of The Marvelettes which heightens the elevation of the record. However, after manipulating the wax, Justice creates a pocket for himself to spit some wisdom. “F*ck what the naysay’ say, say no go / Those that know don’t say sh*t, so they don’t know / The game is to be sold, not told, but I ain’t playin’ / So if I ain’t receive more gold, I ain’t stayin’,” is just one stellar excerpt.

“You’re The One For Me Bobby” exemplifies why Live is referred to, past and present, as a staple and inspiration in the underground realm. In 2015, he released How Much Is Water?, a concept album.
