Torae Schools B-Boys & B-Girls On What A Career In Hip-Hop Really Takes (Video)
Coney Island’s Torae is back with a new music video off his upcoming collaborative EP alongside Praise, All Praises Due (October 11). The project marks Torae’s first project since his 2016 LP Entitled, despite releasing a few singles with since, including the “Get Down (Remix),” featuring Freeway and Styles P. The duo’s first single released last month as “Take Notes,” a brassy boom-bap track that samples a vocal of Notorious B.I.G.’s command, “relax and take notes.” This week, it gets the visual treatment.
Directed by PixelMotiv Media, the video for “Take Notes” shows off Torae teaching a classroom full of B-boys and B-girls. Torae grabs the mic and commands other rappers to simply study his practice, rejecting modern views of fame in favor of simple fun: just rhyming. Torae goes off with a pinpoint flow: “Got three passports never lifted my pivot, got platinum plaque stacked never shifted my penning / Til the casket drop from the beginning / Yeah, I start at the ending, ’cause that’s where you headed / I guess it’s a given / Take advantage of the mic d*mn I guess I’m a Givens / And I’m still the head of the class I guess you ain’t live it / Ain’t no error saying my era the best ones that did it / I’m a terror terrific predator that’s prolific / Clinton would’ve gave me the sentence Obama had lifted.”
