Donald Glover Is The First Hip-Hop Artist To Win Song Of The Year

UPDATE: Later tonight (February 1o), Donald Glover also won “Record Of The Year” for “This Is America.”

ORIGINAL STORY: While Donald Glover opted not to attend the 61st Grammy Awards, one of his three 2018 songs made history at tonight’s (February 10) ceremony. Moments ago, “This Is America” took home “Song Of The Year” honors along with two others. He becomes the first Hip-Hop artist ever to take the award in this category.

Category presenters Alicia Keys (who also hosted the Grammy’s) and John Mayer accepted the award on Donald Glover’s behalf. The song has won three awards in total tonight. It grabbed “Best Music Video” and “Best Rap/Sung Performance” earlier in the evening. Glover’s Atlanta collaborator Hiro Murai directed the captivating 2018 music video.

Previously, Glover has won a trophy at last year’s affair for “Redbone” (“Best Traditional R&B Performance”).
