John Singleton Is In A Coma After Suffering A Stroke

UPDATE: According to TMZ, director John Singleton remains in treatment more than a week after being hospitalized in California. The acclaimed director suffered a stroke on April 17. Sources now say that Singleton is currently in a coma. The publication obtained documents confirming that members of John’s family are seeking to establish a conservatorship for his further care.

ORIGINAL APRIL 22 STORY: This weekend it was revealed that Oscar-nominated film director and screenwriter John Singleton is currently in the hospital. The 51-year-old Los Angeles, California native suffered a stroke last week (April 17) and was placed in intensive care at an undisclosed hospital.

The Associated Press published a statement from the veteran director’s family. “On Wednesday, April 17 our beloved son/father, John Singleton, suffered a stroke while at the hospital. John is currently in the ICU and under great medical care,” the statement read. “We ask that privacy be given to him and our family at this time and appreciate all of the prayers that have been pouring in from his fans, friends, and colleagues.”
