Griselda & DJ Premier Put The Boom Bap Back In New York Rap (Video)
Last month, Westside Gunn, Conway The Machine, and Benny The Butcher dropped the Griselda trifecta’s highly-anticipated DJ Premier-produced single “Headlines.” The Payday Records collaboration linked the three MCs with a producer who had a major hand in inspiring their sound and Rap aesthetic. The first union between the Gang Starr producer/DJ and the Griselda gang marked a sign of things to come, as Westside Gunn recently told AFH TV during a video interview at Payday.
“I feel we’re going to do a Preem’ album; I really do. It’s for the culture. I think it’s what people wanna hear. I think it’s a necessity. Especially our sound with our East Coast raw sh*t,” W.S.G. stated. “Who better for Preemo to work with than doing an album with someone who’s running the East? It makes sense, especially for the culture. That’s something that has to be done just for the culture. It’ll go down in history.”

“Headlines” now comes to video, directed by Jason Goldwatch (Alchemist, Atmosphere, Danny Brown). The Griselda MCs bring Premier to their stomping grounds of Buffalo, New York, and show the legend and the public the world that they represent. Debuting at Complex, the visual is shot on old-school film.
The nostalgic feel showcases the world that Benny, Wes’, and The Machine left behind when they pursued their Rap dreams. The visual is raw, gritty, and colorful, just like the music these four men make. “Headlines” goes back to the beginning, showing how the story has only gotten better.
