Rapper A$AP Rocky is currently being detained in Sweden. On Friday (July 5), the RCA Records star was ordered to two weeks in detention related to an altercation on the streets of Stockholm during the previous week (June 30). Despite reduced assault charges, the artist was deemed a flight risk and kept by authorities. The decision forced the American Rap star to cancel a series of concerts and festival bookings.

Videos posted by Rocky document the MC/producer and his entourage being stalked by two men in the streets of the Swedish city. In a video, one of the men appears to hurl a pair of headphones at Rocky’s security guard, after the team continuously request (and later warn) the men to stop pursuing the group. Another video, posted by a Swedish newspaper, appears to capture a related altercation involving the chart-topping artist. Rocky’s identity is un-blurred, while other parties’ faces are covered in editing.

New Details Suggest 21 Savage Is A Victim, Not An Impostor

TMZ reports that Rocky is in poor conditions while in detainment. The account describes Rocky’s environment as “Feces hurled about and not cleaned up, wretched food and facilities that are not fit for human beings,” attributing the description to a source close to the situation. Additionally, information suggests that Rocky is forced to sleep on a yoga mat without blankets provided. He is reportedly being held next to an inmate with severe mental health issues, who is hurling feces and banging his head against the wall. The account describes Rocky as given inedible food and unclean water. For five days in detainment, the artist has eaten only an apple a day.

Per the Vienna Convention For Consular Relations, Rocky is entitled to speak to his country’s consulate. TMZ reports, “Our sources say Rocky asked for the meeting, but when an official from the American Consulate arrived at the detention center to meet him but was squarely denied access—a clear violation of the treaty.” The article alleges that access was denied due to fear of witnessing Rocky’s current conditions.

Two days after the first attempt, Rocky was reportedly allowed to meet with the American Consulate. However, the two parties were not provided private meeting space. At present, Rocky and his legal team are reportedly seeking help from the Department Of State to intervene with the situation. Swedish court proceedings are closed to the media and the general public.
