ScHoolboy Q Talks Greasy To Impatient Fans On A Smooth Alchemist Beat (Audio)

Thanks to the way music is made and released, artists can easily drop multiple projects in a single year. In the underground, some artists release whole efforts in consecutive weeks. Others create daily, weekly, and monthly series of songs to engage fans. This culture can often leave fans focused on what’s next above what is, and that can be frustrating to some creators.

ScHoolboy Q has never been a rapper that flooded the market. Even before fame, the Los Angeles, California native has carefully built his brand through focused, standout releases that are often supported by compelling visuals. From radio to the Grammy nominations, the mainstream has paid attention to the TDE veteran.

ScHoolboy Q May Need Numb Numb Juice After Taking The Hot Wings Challenge (Video)

Earlier this year, Q gave fans CrasH Talk, his fifth album. It entered the Top 3 of the charts, and featured three diverse singles that each broke the Top 100. However, just over three months after the release, people online and in the streets pester Groovy Q with one question, “But when you gonna drop that new sh*t?”

That question becomes a theme on an Alchemist-produced loosie. ALC, who has been putting in work with Q throughout the decade, hosts the song as part of his “Craft Singles” vinyl series. ScHoolboy talks through the electric and jazzy track. He walks Heads through a day in his successful life, and just how absurd the question can be. After a minute, he breaks into verse and shows why his mind is on bigger things.

He answers the lingering question. “Guess what, ni**a? I dropped this / Between my life, my fame, my body, my daughter, be happy and focused / Stay on that flight like tourists / Runnin’ them lights, no purist / Me and this hood here furious / ‘uh, but when you gonna drop that new sh*t?’ / Come on, my ni**a, you see what I’m doing here take time / Coulda came with the same rhymes,” he replies. True to ALC’s series name, Q makes crafted art.

I’m doin’ me, lettin’ the record reflect,” says Q. For this trusted MC to make such authentic music, he insists he must live a life. For Heads who missed that Q and ALC chemistry in 2019, this a la carte quick-strike should satisfy.
