Dave Chappelle’s New Comedy Special Is Coming Soon. Here’s The Trailer

In 2017, Dave Chappelle released four standup comedy specials. They came as part of a blockbuster deal with Netflix that returned the legend to the small screen. Dave’s quartet of Deep In The Heart of Texas, The Age of Spin, Equanimity, and The Bird Revelation earned the comedian Grammy awards and accolades. These four specials came amid live appearances, including a Radio City Music Hall residency alongside musicians. However, the four moments reached Netflix subscribers in Dave’s first special since the acclaimed Killin’ Them Softly in 2000.

Now, Dave is back for a fifth special with Netflix. This morning (August 15), Chappelle released a one-minute trailer for August 26’s Sticks & Stones. The video features voice-over narration from Morgan Freeman, spoofing his work in Evan Almighty. While there are a few jokes, Freeman also seems to address the perils of politically-incorrect comedy, which Dave Chappelle has often been accused of, even since his return.

“This is Dave. He’s a comedian. Hopefully, he makes people laugh.” After a sigh, the V.O. adds, “But these days, it’s a high-stakes game.” Moments later, the Oscar-winning actor continues, “If you say anything, you risk everything. But if that’s the way it’s gotta be, fine; f*ck it.” Freeman chuckles, before letting fans know that Dave’s back again, roughly two years since his last spot.

In October, Chappelle will receive the John F. Kennedy Center For Performing Arts’ Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, often considered comedy’s highest trophy.
