Eddie Murphy Is Starring In & Producing Beverly Hills Cop 4

As a sequel to Coming To America is currently being filmed in Atlanta, Georgia, Eddie Murphy confirms that he’s reprising another role from his 1980s string of blockbuster movies. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Murphy is producing and starring in Beverly Hills Cop 4 in a partnership between Netflix and Paramount Pictures.

Jerry Bruckheimer, who is responsible for Beverly Hills Cop and its first sequel, is set to produce alongside Eddie. The original film received an Oscar nomination for “Best Original Screenplay” as well as Golden Globe nod for “Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy” in 1985.

More than three years ago, Paramount pulled a March 2016 release date for a fourth film in the franchise that dates back 35 years. In that script, Murphy was also reported to reprise his role as Detroit Police Department Detective “Axel Foley,” who is sent to the posh Los Angeles suburb to investigate a family member’s murder. It is unclear if that premise will remain with the Netflix production.

Following 1984’s original film, there was a 1987 sequel and a 1994 third movie in the series. Judge Reinhold (“Detective Billy Rosewood”) starred in all three films.
