Conway The Machine Collides With DJ Premier For Something That’s Nothin’ Less Than Dope

Last Friday (September 11), Conway The Machine released his third project of 2020. Following March’s Alchemist-produced LULU and May’s Ghost LTD-helmed No One Mourns The Wicked, the Buffalo, New Yorker steps forth with From A King To A God. In one of the busiest seasons in Hip-Hop history, Griselda continues the run with the independently-released LP.

Although it’s indie, From A King To A God boasts plenty of treats. Heads may have already heard the Method Man-assisted “Lemon” (currently included on the Ambrosia For Heads playlist, embedded below); other parties involved include Mobb Deep’s Havoc, Lloyd Banks, Erick Sermon, Hit-Boy, and Rockwilder. In addition to Hav’, E-Double, Rockwilder, and Khrysis, close collaborators Daringer, Alchemist, and Beat Butcha are deeply involved, as is Westside Gunn and Benny The Butcher. DJ Premier also digs in on his Griselda connection with LP closer “Nothing Less.”

The song honors the August passing of producer/mentor DJ Shay (who also appears on an LP interlude) as well as Guru and Prodigy—an early supporter of The Machine. “I ain’t never satisfied, so I have to go harder / Story of my life, every chapter I authored,” raps Con’ on the album closer.
