Scarface Would Battle Ice Cube In A New Verzuz Format

An upcoming Verzuz has recently been announced between The Diplomats and The LOX. That matchup is scheduled for August 3, before a live audience at Madison Square Garden’s Hulu Room. However, this week saw a discussion of another proposed battle between Scarface and Ice Cube. However, this one would go down differently than the others.

“I’ll do [a Verzuz against Ice] Cube on solo,” Scarface told The Breakfast Club at the 29:00 mark, embedded below. However, Brad Jordan insists on a different format. “I’ll play all my favorite Cube sh*t; he’ll play all his favorite ‘Face sh*t. I’ll beat him with that. I’ll kill him with the favorite Cube because I got favorite Cube sh*t that can’t nobody touch.”

This suggestion follows Cube appearance on The Breakfast Club last week where the former N.W.A. member proposed a similar concept. “My version of Verzuz would have been, I pull somebody out there like Chuck D or Public Enemy or something, and I play all the songs I love from him, and he play all the songs he love from me,” Cube told the morning show. “It’s a lovefest. But, it’s not something that I’m thinking about doing. If it comes about, who knows. I ain’t sayin’ yeah, I ain’t sayin’ no.”

Verzuz battles have broken format before. This year, D’Angelo performed a solo event. While some faceoffs, such as Teddy Riley vs. Babyface and Gucci Mane vs. Young Jeezy, have been filled with the spirit of rivalry and competition, others, such as Erykah Badu vs. Jill Scott and Method Man vs. Redman, have been showings of mutual admiration and artistic family.

Cube and Face worked together on 1990s Gangsta Rap gems, including “Hand Of The Dead Body” and “Game Over,” as well as Kool G Rap & DJ Polo’s “Two To The Head.” Both artists belong to several acclaimed groups, most notably Cube’s role in N.W.A. and Scarface’s tenure with the Geto Boys. Cube later co-created Westside Connection with WC and Mack 10, while Scarface launched Facemob, a Rap-A-Lot Records collective that for a time, involved Devin The Dude.

Scarface’s Breakfast Club appearance was joined by Geto Boys band-mate Willie D, who appeared in-studio while Brad Jordan video called in. ‘Face and Willie have announced a new podcast, Geto Boys Reloaded. The venture comes after the group called it quits even before the 2019 death of Bushwick Bill.

Ice Cube, Mack 10, and WC are independently billed for December’s Once Upon A Time In L.A. music festival, prompting some speculation of a potential group reunion.
