DJ Quik’s Son David Blake Jr. Has Been Arrested For Murder

The son of Hip-Hop legend DJ Quik has been arrested. Yesterday (May 27), the media learned that David Blake, Jr. was booked on suspicion of murder. The 27-year-old suspect was apprehended in Porter Ranch, California, and is being held in lieu of a $2 million bail.

The events follow the death of 33-year-old Julio Cardoza, whom authorities found fatally shot in the chest at the 13200 block of Carfax Avenue. Downey California police officers were initially called to the scene after witnesses reported a fight in progress, where they found Cardoza wounded. He was transported to a local hospital, where he died from the injuries.

As an artist known as David Blake II, the 27-year-old Blake has appeared on his father’s albums, including 2014’s The Midnight Life, on the songs “Shine” and “That Getter,” which was featured on Ambrosia For Heads upon release.

Outside of music, David Blake, Jr. serves as liaison to Compton City Councilman Isaac Galvan. NBC Los Angeles reports that in 2021, Galvan was charged with conspiracy and bribery surrounding his elected position, as well as a 2020 federal investigation surrounding cannabis.

This event follows past tragedies in DJ Quik’s family. In 2013, the Compton, California MC/producer’s daughter, Davieanna Marlena Blake, was charged with first-degree murder after her two-year-old son was found fatally wounded outside of a Phoenix, Arizona apartment. An autopsy reported that the toddler, Quik’s grandson, suffered a lacerated liver, severe internal bleeding, and bruising throughout his body. Davieanna’s boyfriend, Darnell Moses Alvarez, was also charged.

According to MSN, David Blake, Jr. is due in court on May 31. DJ Quik has not yet commented publicly on the incident.
