Kid Capri Was Fighting For His Life Last Year

As Hip-Hop celebrated its symbolic 50th birthday, one of its pioneers revealed he battled a life-threatening illness. Kid Capri, one of Hip-Hop’s mixtape pioneers, legendary party-rockers, and celebrated personalities of the last 30 years, shared that he is now cancer-free. It was a fight that included multiple surgeries that Kid Capri kept from the public throughout 2023.

On December 30, the Bronx, New Yorker revealed that doctors confirmed his condition as cancer-free. The Grammy Award-winner did not disclose where on his body the cancer was found and removed.

“God is great! Three days ago, I found out that I’m cancer-free! [I have] been dealing with it all year while I was doing everything I was doing for Hip Hop 50,” wrote Kid Capri on Instagram, along with a photo of him in a hospital gown. “I had two surgeries and never said anything publicly about what I was going through, I’m not an attention w___e, so I didn’t want to say anything, so that it didn’t look like i wanted pity, but now that it’s over, I figure I let my fans and friends know.” The veteran DJ/producer/personality shared that he is happy.

During 2023, Kid Capri appeared at the Hip Hop 50 event at Yankee Stadium, in his Bronx borough. There, he did a ceremony with former Yankee superstar Derek Jeter. Kid also produced and collaborated on album by the group The Hoodies, Hidden Gems. In 2022, Kid Capri released his third solo album, and his first in over 20 years, The Love. That collection featured the artist’s daughter, Vina Love. During 2023, Kid Capri also appeared on Dave East’s Fortune Favors The Bold album, as well as Black Rob’s posthumous, Life Story 2.
