Travis Scott’s Sick New Visual Shows How Great Music Videos Can Still Be (Video)

When Travis Scott finally gave fans his long-promised third album ASTROWORLD this summer, it became a mainstream success, almost immediately. With 2018 first week sales only second to Drake’s Scorpion, the Houston-native rapper/singer’s latest offering has been buoyed by the singles “Butterfly Effect” and “Sicko Mode.” Now, although it’s been nearly two months since that latter song dropped as a single, Scott only just uploaded the video (which he directed with Dave Meyers) today.

The video drives home the theme park/circus motif of the LP. Cactus Jack has previously stated that while ASTROWORLD is his third album, it is the spiritual successor to his debut Rodeo. The Epic Records album was created in response to the closing of Six Flags AstroWorld in Houston, Texas.

Although only Drake busts a verse, this song also features contributions from Swae Lee and late Screwed Up Click member Big Hawk in the background and ad-libs. To enhance the visual experience, La Flame and Drizzy are in the visual.

Canada’s biggest export sparks it off while walking a pitbull with the moon looking like it’s going to crash into the street behind him. He laments that he couldn’t get a homie to see the bigger picture, “The sun is down, freezing cold / That how we already know…winter’s here / My dog will probably do it for a Louis belt / That’s just all he know, he don’t know nothing else.” Then, the beat switches up, and Scott appears on-horse in front of the inflatable head from the cover of ASTROWORLD.

Things only get crazier from there in the colorful treatment. Most everything in this vid is real life, but there are very few frames that are not embellished or tweaked somehow. The affiliate of both G.O.O.D. Music and Grand Hustle created a world on his latest album. That cosmos comes to bright and trippy life in the visual in the highest-charting solo single of his career.
