Like “New York is dead,” one of Hip-Hop’s armchair critic cliches is that “West Coast Hip-Hop is dead.” With everything seemingly about faded trends and death, Heads know better. Two such Heads out to muffle any remaining skeptics (who possibly missed what’s going on with Top Dawg Ent., Stones Throw, Crooked I, or Snoop Dogg’s many comebacks) are Nipsey Hussle and Hit-Boy. “Alert” is that wakeup call, with a chorus that even places emphasis on what a hater might say.
