Lauryn Hill Releases a Chilling Dedication to Michael Brown (Audio)
The collective voices of outrage at the death of Michael Brown continue to grow in Hip-Hop. Lauryn Hill is the latest to stand in protest, at least in her music. Her song “Black Rage” is set to the tune of the Sound of Music’s “My Favorite Things” but it is far from a list of pleasantries. Instead, Ms. Hill talks about many of the atrocities in life that fuel Black rage and, in turn, give her perspective about her own life. This is one of her most haunting works to date.
Here are the lyrics:
Those with the greatest understanding are usually the most misunderstood. The folks calling Lauren crazy are probably not as informed as they would like to think they are. Don't let the media control your thoughts. Their goal is to keep you as a humble slave.
whenever you hear someone call a woman a bitch or crazy, turn your head to listen - she might have something to say. don't be confused by generational and historic degradation of women or any other minority. we should know by now that its used to shame, quiet and discredit.
Lauryn Hill, you're still a little bit loony in the head but damn, you are a powerful artist. This is amazing stuff.
this track is so ill. ohh that beat gives me chills. although be weary of black rage, rage of man destroys, rage dosent know color.
@Charmon329 Funny you should say that...I put a youtube link to "Strange Fruit" on my facebook page right after I listened to "Black Rage".
@grover173 You European Negroes make me laugh
I was once told you can learn something from the devil. And even though Lauren Hill appears to be sometimes unstable her skills are still are still in tact when least expected! Of course she's not the devil! But someone has has to bring the message in order for us to receive.
@ZakiyyahAli She doesnt have to. its a sample of the melody but its not on an album. You can use thing like this on mix tapes b/c they dont "generate income"
@bdreys07 My intent was not to entertain you, but thanks...I guess...
