Lecrae Goes As Hard As Any MC Out, Spiritual Or Otherwise (Video)

By now, it’s no secret that Lecrae has managed to topple preconceived notions of what Christian Hip-Hop is “supposed” to sound like on their head. The Houston, Texas native has already released an impressive arsenal of seven solo albums, with 2014’s Anomaly peaking at the top of the Billboard 200 chart and winning the Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song award at the Grammys last year. In a historic moment for the 36-year-old, his crossover success did not go unnoticed by the Recording Academy, and his song “All I Need Is You” earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Performance. Today, he dropped the latest installment in his Church Clothes mixtape series, and it features E-40 in addition to N’Dambi, Propaganda, John Givez, JGivens, Jackie Hill Perry, and KB.

As an additional gift to his fans, Lecrae has also released Churches Clothes 3: a Short Film as a companion piece, and the beautiful visual accompaniment not only bumps, but is also moving. It’s got vintage appeal, with his mixtape making an appearance as an 8-track tape, and it’s also a postcard from Lecrae’s creative approach to the mixtape. Featuring “It Is What It Is,” “Gangland,” “Deja Vu,” and “Misconceptions 3,” it’s a nearly 17-minute glimpse into the ideas behind the mixtape’s musical inspiration.

Church Clothes 3 is now available on iTunes.
