With its swelling Gospel chorus and Common’s piercing lyrics about the plight facing his hometown of Chicago, it’s hard to imagine his song “Kingdom” could be any more powerful. However, when you combine that penetrating soundtrack with the visuals of Hype Williams, the song soars to a new level. Williams flexes the “glossy but gritty” style that made Belly a visual wonder in Common’s video which depicts the consequences of going down the wrong path. The result is beautiful and bitter. Check out the video.
