Souls Of Mischief Are Finally Back, Sounding As Great As Ever (Audio)

Tomorrow (August 26), the mighty Souls Of Mischief crew is teaming with producer/musician Adrian Younge to release There Is Only Now. The Oakland, California quartet’s first LP in four years finds the crew in their mid-1990s pocket that made them an instrumental element in re-defining West Coast Hip-Hop diversity during the post-N.W.A/Death Row Records dominance.

“Finally Back,” their latest release, looks at the pro’s of revenge with the con’s of the consequences, mainly a life in jail. Adrian breaks the sparse percussion (which the crew has lyrical fun with), with a smooth and evocative vocal sample. The resulting record sounds like it could have been in 1994, 2004, or 2014…which it was.
