The Souls of Mischief continue their passionate drive to push the boundaries of their music and this time they’ve laid the experience of that journey to wax on their upcoming album, There Is Only Now, which will be released on August 26th.

Sitting down with Hyptrak TV, the Oakland artists delve into the concept behind the project as a whole. Based on a story the group wrote together related to an undisclosed, life-threatening event that happened to them back in ’94, the album touches on themes of understanding what is most important in life and using that knowledge to live to the fullest.

Souls, who released their debut album 93 Til Infinity over 20 years ago, took pieces from their narrative to write out their verses and let Adrian Younge spread his wings with his live, sample free producing tactics to set the tone for an album that Younge dubs, “a new outlook on vintage music.”
