Travi$ Scott Releases a Dark and Complex Free EP (Mixtape)
With one listen to Kanye West’s Yeezus and Travi$ Scott’s Owl Pharoah, the mind meld shared by the 2 sonic technicians is abundantly clear. Scott, the former G.O.O.D. Music signee, joined Kanye’s camp in 2012 and his influence could be heard as early as on their Cruel Summer project. With a sound that could be described as “Goth Trap,” Scott specializes in dark baroque chords layered over trap beats with intermittent injections of autotune. The melange is definitely an acquired taste, but, like some of Ye’s more complex work, it is worth the investment.
